The Bengston Energy Healing Method

A mental technique you can actually learn — studied in the lab for over 40 years. Rapid Image Cycling, resonant bonding, and the research that backs it all up. No mystique required.

The technique was developed and published under the name Bengston Energy Healing Method. On this site we also use the shorter Bengston Method, reflecting Dr. Bengston's later view that the process is better described as informational rather than energy-based. Both names refer to the same body of work.

The Core Practice

Rapid Image Cycling

Rapid Image Cycling is the teachable mental technique which is at the heart of the Bengston Energy Healing Method. When engaged properly, and with significant practice, this technique generates a harmonic of brainwave frequencies anchored by 7.83Hz. This correlates to the Alpha and Theta brainwave states, associated with calm, clarity, creativity and deep states of meditation.

This frequency (7.83Hz), referred to as the Schumann Resonance, is also a naturally occurring set of electromagnetic frequencies that fills the Earth-Ionosphere atmospheric cavity; known as the Earth's "heartbeat."

While 'Cycling', the Healer applies their intention to catalyze and maintain a healing response for individuals or bonded groups (the "cage mate effect"). While the treatment is ongoing, EEG studies have demonstrated that this brainwave harmonic manifests in both healer and the recipient(s). This coupling seems to play a central role in the process; evidence suggests this brainwave entrainment helps catalyze a natural healing response.

Importantly, the Healer does not direct the course of the healing to treat the recipient in any specific manner. Instead, the technique generates a holistic healing response that is directed by your individual biological need.

Not a medical treatment. The Bengston Energy Healing Method and Rapid Image Cycling are complementary wellness practices. They are not licensed medical treatments, are not FDA-approved, and are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The research referenced on this site is preclinical (animal and in-vitro); it has not been demonstrated to treat, cure, or prevent any disease in humans. Individual results are not guaranteed and may vary. Always consult a qualified health provider regarding any medical condition, and never delay or disregard professional care because of something you have read here.

Beyond Healing Others

Cycling for Yourself

Rapid Image Cycling is most often described as a technique for healing others — but Dr. Bengston has always taught it as a personal practice with value all its own. It is a way to train your mind, regulate your nervous system, and actively shape the life you want.

The Alpha-Theta State

Cycling trains your brain to enter the Alpha-Theta crossover — the same frequencies linked to deep meditation, reduced anxiety, heightened creativity, and emotional resilience. With practice, you learn to switch this state on deliberately.

Intention & Focus

The Bengston workshop team describe Image Cycling as a practice of focused intention. By cycling vivid images of the outcomes that matter to you, you train your attention on your goals and aspirations — a personal practice of clarity and motivation.

A Personal Charging Practice

Preclinical research suggests the method's signals may be stored in cotton and water. Some practitioners incorporate a personal practice of charging such items through cycling as part of their daily routine.

For Its Own Merits

Even apart from healing others, cycling is a practice of mental training and self-regulation. Regular practitioners report greater calm, clarity, and a felt sense of alignment between their inner state and the life they are building.

One technique, many applications. The same rapid cycling practiced in Dr. Bengston's preclinical research is, at its core, a training in focused intention. Whether you approach it as a personal wellness practice, a community practice, or a focus for your aspirations, the technique remains the same — and it meets you where you are.

Bonding and Relationship

Resonant Healing

Dr. Bengston's research has shown that healing is more effective in groups that are resonantly bonded (having relationship), and the healing response has been shown to scale with group size. The more people (or animals) that are involved, the faster and stronger the effects of the treatments may manifest.

By agreeing to join our membership, and through acts of participation in our community, we can generate a resonant bond among our members that can serve as a conduit for transformative healing and reproduce this 'cage mate' effect seen in Dr. Bengston's data.

This is why the membership model is a powerful and essential approach to maximizing the impact we can make. We recognize that family, friends, and colleagues are the central relationships in our lives. An important aspect of our membership is participating in our online community spaces; sharing our healing journey and supporting other members along theirs as well.

Treatment and recovery, the healing response, are not things that occur as readily in isolation. This model unites participants through their healing experience — a vision for improved health and well-being in our personal lives, as well as our family, work and community.

Evidence-Based Approach

Science and Research

The Bengston Energy Healing Method is the life's work of William F. Bengston — a professor of sociology at St. Joseph's College who spent more than four decades subjecting hands-on healing to rigorous laboratory science. Building on the pioneering experiments of Bernard Grad at McGill University, he produced the first full cures of transplanted cancer in mice and built a body of peer-reviewed research that continues to grow.

Dr. Bengston proposed that the "energy" in healing is better understood as information — healing information that rides on an energy wave. His work, and the work of those who came before him, moved the study of healing out of the realm of anecdote and into the modern, tangible standards of science.

Bernard Grad, PhD

1920 – 2010

The Father of Healing Research

McGill University

A Canadian biologist at McGill University, Bernard Grad was the first to bring spiritual healing into controlled laboratory conditions. His meticulous experiments with healer Oskar Estebany in the 1960s demonstrated measurable effects on wound healing in mice and on plant growth — moving the field beyond anecdotes into reproducible science.

  • Conducted his research career in experimental morphology at McGill University.
  • Met Hungarian healer Oskar Estebany in 1957, sparking a decade of controlled experiments.
  • Showed that mice treated by Estebany healed significantly faster than controls — and that the effect vanished when cages were insulated, suggesting a local energetic phenomenon.
  • Found that barley seeds watered with saline 'treated' by Estebany grew faster despite hostile conditions, with no chemical change to the water itself.

The Problem He Solved

Every study of human healing ran into the same wall: the placebo effect. If a sick person believes they are being healed, they sometimes get better — not because of any external force, but because of their own expectation. Dr. Bernard Grad, an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Biology at McGill University in Montreal, devised an elegant solution: conduct the experiments on organisms that cannot form beliefs. Mice and barley seeds cannot "believe" in energy healing. If healing energy affects them, it must be real.

The Wound-Healing Trials

Working with Oskar Estebany, a Hungarian healer with a remarkable reputation, Grad gave groups of laboratory mice identical surgical skin wounds under strictly controlled conditions. Estebany held the cages of the treated group for 15 minutes twice daily — he never touched the mice directly. Control cages were held by ordinary volunteers or left untouched. Measured at regular intervals, the mice whose cages were held by Estebany showed statistically significant acceleration in wound closure, tissue contraction, and skin regrowth. Published in peer-reviewed journals, these results could not be explained by any conventional mechanism.

The Barley Seed Experiments

In a double-blind trial, barley seeds were "sickened" by soaking them in a high-saline solution — the plant equivalent of stress or illness. They were then planted in identical pots and watered with sealed glass flasks of saline. One set of flasks had been held by Estebany for 30 minutes; the control flasks were identical but untouched. Neither the researchers measuring the plants nor those doing the watering knew which pot received which water. The seeds watered from Estebany's flasks grew taller, produced broader leaves, and contained measurably more chlorophyll. The healing quality had transferred — through glass — into the water itself.

Why It Matters

Grad's body of work established the scientific foundation for the entire field now called biofield research. He demonstrated that (1) healing energy is a physical phenomenon that can be transferred, (2) it can be stored in water and materials, (3) it operates independently of the recipient's belief system, and (4) it produces measurable biological changes in living systems. Every subsequent researcher in this field — including William Bengston — built directly upon his framework.

William F. Bengston, PhD

1950 – 2025

Developer of the Bengston Energy Healing Method

St. Joseph's University

A longtime professor of sociology at St. Joseph's College, Bill Bengston was a rigorous skeptic who followed the data wherever it led. Building on Grad's foundation, he developed Rapid Image Cycling and produced the first successful full cures of transplanted cancer in experimental mice — validated across more than 16 experiments in at least 6 independent labs.

  • Earned his PhD in sociology from Fordham University; joined the Society for Scientific Exploration in 1999 and served as its president from 2010 to 2022.
  • Conducted 16+ mouse experiments across 6+ independent labs — Brown University (his primary funded lab), CUNY, Arizona State, UConn, Indiana University, Thomas Jefferson, UC San Diego, Wake Forest, and the Institute of Noetic Sciences.
  • Achieved full cures even at twice the fatal cancer dosage; cured mice retained immunity to re-injection and lived their full two-year lifespan.
  • Authored two books and some 35 peer-reviewed articles on alternative healing, and delivered more than 100 keynote addresses around the world.

The Reluctant Researcher

Dr. William Bengston holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and was, by his own admission, a committed skeptic. In the 1970s he encountered a healer named Bennett Mayrick who appeared to facilitate spontaneous remissions in chronically ill people. Rather than dismiss it, Bengston's scientific instinct led him to investigate it. What followed was more than three decades of peer-reviewed laboratory research that turned his skepticism inside out.

The Fatal Cancer Experiments

Bengston conducted a series of controlled studies using H2712 mammary cancer cells — an extremely aggressive, transplantable breast cancer strain with a 100% fatality rate in laboratory mice, typically killing within 14–27 days of injection. Mice were injected with the cancer and randomly assigned to treated and control groups across multiple replications at multiple universities.

The Skeptic Students

In one of the most striking design choices in this body of research, Bengston did not use himself as the primary healer. Instead, he recruited student volunteers who were openly skeptical of energy healing and had no prior training or belief in it. He taught them his Rapid Image Cycling technique — the structured, high-speed mental imaging practice described elsewhere in this app. The skeptical, untrained students produced the same results as experienced healers: dramatic cancer remissions.

Spontaneous Remission — and Immunity

In study after study, 87.5% to 100% of treated mice went into full remission. The tumors grew, ulcerated, and then — unexpectedly and completely — dissolved and healed over. More startling: once cured, the mice lived their full natural lifespans. When researchers later re-injected the same animals with the identical fatal cancer, the mice were completely immune. The healing had reorganized their immune system at a deep level.

The Resonance Field Effect

Perhaps the most provocative finding was what happened to the control mice — the ones deliberately NOT treated. In multiple studies, control animals housed in the same facility, often in the same room, spontaneously went into remission at rates far exceeding chance. Bengston concluded that the healing state generates a field effect — a resonant biological influence that extends beyond the immediate hands-on subject to nearby living systems. This phenomenon has been observed consistently across replications.

The Published Record

This work has been published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Scientific Exploration and Explore: The Journal of Science and Healing. The studies have been replicated at multiple independent university laboratories.

Recent Research: MD Anderson Cancer Center

In a significant recent development, researchers at MD Anderson Cancer Center — one of the world's leading cancer research institutions — applied Bengston's technique in a study involving pancreatic cancer cells. Pancreatic cancer is among the most treatment-resistant cancers known, making this application of particular scientific interest. This collaboration marks a meaningful step toward mainstream oncological investigation of biofield-based approaches.
